Vishu

Also known as: Vishu Kani, Kerala New Year

Celebration🙏 Krishna

Dates follow the Indian calendar (IST). If you’re outside India, your local temple may observe a day earlier or later for tithi-based festivals.

Vishu is the Kerala new year, and it begins with what you see first: the night before, families arrange the Vishu Kani — golden kani konna blossoms, rice, fruit, coins, and a mirror around an image of Krishna — and at dawn each person is led to it with eyes closed, so the year opens with a vision of abundance. Elders then gift coins (Vishu Kaineettam) to the young, and the day ends with a festive sadya meal.
